TicketSmarter WAC Women’s and Men’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced

ARLINGTON, Texas Northern Arizona’sCasey Craffey and Makenna Sammons have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, for the competition week ending on Nov. 22. Air Force’s Wen Zhang and Wyoming’sPayton Lee have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, for the competition week ending on Nov. 22. 

Craffey, a sophomore from Mesa, Arizona, brought in the Jacks first individual win of the TYR/CMU invitational as she swam a 4:51.72 in the 500 freestyle. Craffey's time earned her a NCAA Division I B cut, as the sophomore swam just two seconds under her career top time. Craffey improved from her 4:54.68 in the morning prelims. Craffey went on to secure a win in the 1,650 freestyle as well, placing first with a time of 16:50.62, beating her own meet record that was previously set in last year's invitational, and finishing 20 seconds ahead of second place. 

Sammons, a sophomore from San Diego, California, capped off a successful and consistent weekend during NAU's first Lumberjack Diving Invite of the year, finishing on the podium in three of four events, with four top five finishes. Sammons placed second to kick off the invite on the 3-meter boards, with a score of 274.05. Sammons went on to finish third on the 1-meter boards with a NCAA Zone qualifying score of 270.90. Sammons placed fourth on the platform dives with a score of 209.45 and finished the invite with a third-place finish in the relay diving event with teammates Victoria Knapp and Grace Wesche.  

Zhang, a senior from Dothan, Alabama, placed second in the 200Y freestyle with a time of 1:31.99, besting his own school and Western Athletic Conference record of 1:32.21. The winner of the race, Alabama's Charlie Hawke, touched out Zhang at 1:31.92, as Hawk and Zhang now own the top-two times in the 200Y freestyle in NCAA competition this season. Zhang finished third in the 100Y freestyle. His time of 42.80 resets his previous Air Force record, solidifying the fastest time in the event in program history. Zhang also participated in the 200Y freestyle relay, placing 10th with a time of 1:20.23, and placed seventh in the 500Y freestyle, clocking in at 4:24.78. 

Lee, a senior from Sparks, Nevada, Took 11th in 1-meter board with a score of 163.25 at the SMU invite.  Lee placed fifth in platform at the same meet with a final tally of 243.20 and went on to finish 11th in 3-meter board with a score of 183.55.
